Femme 14 by Haleh Mashian presents the female form as both constructed and unsettled, emerging from a dense network of layered collage and gestural mark making. The seated figure appears partially obscured by intersecting planes of pigment, scraped passages of paint, and embedded material fragments that compress the body into its surrounding environment.

Mashian builds the composition through rhythmic strokes of green, turquoise, and deep black, interrupted by flashes of red and yellow that move across the surface like visual interference. The fragmented background presses inward, dissolving clear spatial boundaries and flattening the figure into a shifting field of texture and line. Drips of black paint descend across the canvas, reinforcing a sense of gravity and containment while simultaneously activating the lower register with energetic movement. Femme 14 reflects Mashian’s exploration of identity as something shaped through accumulation, tension, and continual reconstruction.
